Meet Larry the Laser Guy
I have spent more than thirty seven years working with wood, tools, and materials. Long before lasers ever entered the shop, craftsmanship was already part of my life. I have always enjoyed building things with my hands and watching an idea evolve from raw materials into something real. Solocraft was built on that same mindset. Creating things, refining them, and constantly pushing the limits of what can be built in a workshop.
Where Solocraft Began
Solocraft did not begin as a laser engraving business. During the cold winter months here in Calgary, I began building handcrafted projects in my shop, including custom crokinole boards. Each board was designed and built individually, and people quickly started to notice the craftsmanship. Before long, my craft was gaining attention from around the world, and orders started shipping internationally.
When the Work Outgrew the Tools
That growing demand created the need for greater precision and customization, which is when the first of my five lasers entered the shop. Many engraving businesses buy machines first and then search for work. Solocraft grew the opposite way. The work came first. The machines simply allowed it to grow. The problem most people do not realize is simple. Everyone owns a hammer, but few can build a fence, and owning five hammers does not change the philosophy. The same is true for lasers. The machines are merely tools. The true magic comes from the person behind them.
The Craft Behind Solocraft
Creativity has always been at the center of this workshop. Over the years the shop has produced everything from artistic wall pieces and layered signage to experimental projects using unusual materials. Many of these pieces hang throughout the shop today. The equipment may have evolved, but the mindset has remained the same. Every project begins with the same simple goal. Create something clean, precise, and built properly.
